GETTING STARTED

Your first brevet

Randonneuring is simple at heart: follow a route, reach the controls within the time limits, and look after yourself along the way. Here is how to get from curious to the start line.
01

Choose a ride

Start with a distance that gives you room to learn. A BRM200KM is the traditional first step: long enough to feel like an adventure, but manageable with sensible preparation.

02

Prepare your bicycle

Your bicycle does not need to be exotic. It needs to fit you, work reliably and carry what you need. Check tyres, brakes, drivetrain, lights and anything you would rather not repair at 2am.

03

Register for the brevet

Read the event page before registering. Check the date, start and finish locations, time limit, route information and any Malaysia or border requirements.

04

Load the route

RSG publishes the official route through Ride with GPS. Put it on the navigation device you actually intend to use, and understand how your device behaves before ride morning.

05

Read the Ride Brief

The route file tells you where to go. The Ride Brief tells you how this particular brevet works: controls, proof requirements, logistics, border notes and special instructions.

06

Ride and record your controls

Ride at your own sustainable pace and keep track of the required proof of passage. Depending on the event, that can include your brevet card, photographs and activity recording.

07

Finish and submit

Reaching the finish is not quite the end of the process. Follow the event instructions for submitting your card and required evidence so the ride can be checked and, where applicable, sent for homologation.
